HOUSTON (AP) _ LyondellBasell Industries (LYB) on Friday reported fourth-quarter net income of $690 million.

Thesill plate on concrete slab Houston-based company said it had net income of $1.79 per share. Earnings, adjusted for costs related to mergers and acquisitions and to account for discontinued operations, came to $1.83 per share.

The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of seven analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.13 per share.

The oil refiner and chemical company posted revenue of $8.88 billion in the period, which also did not meet Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $9.22 billion.

For the year, the company reported profit of $4.69 billion, or $12.01 per share. Revenue was reported as $39 billion.

LyondellBasell shares have risen almost 5 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has climbed almost 8 percent. The stock has decreased 27 percent in the last 12 months.
